Year 1 – Semester 2 – Stories –

Students are taught how to analyze and produce a narrative flow.  The logic of telling a multi-sentence story is covered.  By the end of the semester students will have written and told three long-form stories, the last of which will be performed as a Kamishibai in front of the entire class.  Story-telling skills are deeply important in being able to use a language.  Most communication between people is relating narratives of things that have, or will, happen.  We at Tsurugaoka do not believe that Japanese learners of English get enough practice learning how to, free form, describe their own stories.  Additionally, as the standards for university entrance exams and the Center Test are changing, the ability to produce and anaylize narrative is becoming increasingly important.

第1学年―2学期―物語―

この学期を通して，生徒たちは，物語の流れを整理する方法や，物語を生み出す方法，そして物語を伝える方法を学びます。学期の終わりまでに，生徒たちは３つの長い物語を書き，語ることになります。その３つの物語のうちの最後の一つを，クラス全体の前で「紙芝居」にして発表します。物語を伝える技術は，英語を使えるようになることにおいて，非常に重要です。というのもコミュニケーションのほとんどが，もうすでに起こった出来事（物語）や，これから起こる出来事（物語）に関係しているからです。鶴ヶ丘の教員は，日本人の学習者が，自身の物語を自由に表現する時間を十分に確保することが重要だと考えています。また大学入試が変わりつつある中で，物語（出来事）を語る力，そして物語（出来事）を整理する力はますます重要になってきていると思います。

次回は，第1学年3学期の取り組みをご紹介します。
