長年にわたって本校の英語教育に携わってくれているJonathan Edwards先生に，鶴ケ丘の英語の授業について紹介をしてもらっています！

Year 2 – Semester 1 – Tokushin –

The expectation on the Tokushin students in the second year is much higher than it was in the first.  Our beginning semester begins with two projects: a self-study reading course and a semester-long project.  The reading course is on-line self-study where the students need to read at least a book a week in English and then take an on-line test.  Progress is monitered by the instructor and feedback is given for struggling students to help adjust their reading to an appropriate level.

The project is either an experiment that the students need to design and complete themselves, or research into aspects of the world around them.  In the last month of the semester, the students compile their work into a PowerPoint presentation that they deliver in front of the class.  During this time, they are questioned, in English, about their work and need to present a real-time defence of their work.  This is designed to mimic a senior thesis defence as seen in many high-level international high schools.  Past topics have included – The Effect of Language on Plants, The Secret History of Tsurugaoka, and Flower Dyeing.

第2学年―1学期―特進コース―

２年特進コースの生徒への期待は，１年生の時に比べてはるかに高くなります。１学期は２つのプロジェクト（読書とプレゼンテーションプロジェクト）に取り組みます。１つ目の読書では，生徒たちは，少なくとも１週間に１冊ずつ英語の本を読み，その本の内容に対しての試験をWeb上で受ける必要があります。進捗状況は教員によってチェックされ，苦戦している生徒には適切な難易度の本が薦められます。

プレゼンテーションプロジェクトは，生徒たちが，自分たちの力のみで計画し完成させる実験のようなもとも言え，また自分たちの周りの世界に対しての一種の調査とも言えるでしょう。学期の最後には，生徒たちは，調べたものをパワーポイントに編集し，クラスの前で発表します。その後，自分たちのプレゼンについての質問を英語で受け，答えることも求められます。これは高いレベルのインターナショナルスクールでみられる最高学年の学位審査を模して計画されています。過去には「言葉がもたらす植物への影響」「鶴ヶ丘の秘密の歴史」「花の染料」などがありました。
